One of our most popular designs! Have you ever dreamed of riding the waves, then riding right up the beach and down to the local burger joint? Well, Benjamin Such did...or at least something like that. Back in 1904 he applied for a patent that made major improvements on what were called surf boats at the time. His design called for a retractable wheel in the front, levers to steer the rudder in the back and combination traction/paddle wheels.
BJ Such’s patent for his motorized surf boat was actually created for rescue operations. In fact, he presented the design to the United States Lifesaving committee for consideration. Unfortunately for Mr. Such, the committee did not find his design to be seaworthy:
“...the Such boat presents no apparent advantage over other designs and no reason is seen why the board should change the views expressed in regard to them that they are not adapted to the uses of the Life Saving Service.”

Harsh! And what a shame...It was Such a good idea.
